BIO
Joan, the artist, is an art teacher, business owner, artist, and muralist. She has taught for 26 years in public education with the last 18 teaching AP Drawing/Painting, Ceramics/Fibers, and Jewelry/Glass at the high school level. She has a Masters in Art Education and a BFA in Painting and Art certification K-12. Joan was accepted into an artists' residency at the Cleveland Institute of Art for teachers and was a recipient of the Power of Art Teacher Scholarship program in 2012 funded by the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in Washington D.C.. Joan opened Joan's Art Connect, LLC in 2017 to offer private lessons, paint parties and consignment work but closed its’ doors in the fall of 2021. She designed and painted an 8" x 24" community mural for Vandergrift, Pa in 2017 and a mural for Murphy's Music in Leechburg PA in 2020 which is still in process.
Joan’s Heart Connect
Joan offers readings that utilize her ability as is a psychic medium, animal and human communicator and reiki master practitioner/healer and mentor. Her professional intuitive work began after years of study with certification in angel readings and pet communication in 2012. She is a certified Usui/Tibetan Reiki Master with training in Holy Fire 3/Karuna Reiki. She offers both animal and human reiki / readings in person/via zoom as well as at local mind, body and health fairs. Joan strives to continue her education in the field of intuitive work. She considers herself an enlightened empath and life-long learner with an insatiable appetite to be creative in all areas of life as well as to assist others on their healing journey. Joan is an empathic psychic medium, intuitive, animal and angel communicator, Master Reiki Practitioner and Intuitive Mentor. Joan’s Heart Connect started as a private Face Book page in March of 2018. Joan wanted to “come out” to a certain extent because she had kept her abilities to connect intuitively a secret for part of her life many years. Joan realized she had the ability to connect 2009 when she had what she calls an “Awakening Experience”. She realized later in life that small experiences as a child were a precursor to her abilities blossoming later in life.
“It was a small understanding of signs received that connected my father to a friends’ father who had passed.” It started as a full-on set of experiences that left her humble and astonished. The Joan’s Heart Connect FB page provided a path to introduce another aspect of her life that she felt for a long time she had to hide in a safe space. What began as a collection of books in a small chest, had grown to her fully accepting her skills; researching, developing and practicing until she began working metaphysical venues in 2017. This adventure started as a way to help others who are struggling with loss. Joan was able to understand her “clair-abilities”, discovering her connections could be made to angles, her guides, loved ones and animals that are alive/crossed over. Joan offers services of psychic mediumship, pet communication, reiki and intuitive coaching. She recently has been developing her skills in psychometry, name linking, card reading, dream interpretation, coffee/tea reading, intuitive drawing and spirit portrait drawing.

An empath, according to Webster, is a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual. Joan is able to feel or understand their thoughts at a deeper level and convey them to you. She picks up on others energy, feelings and emotions. Over years of perfecting her abilities, Joan has discovered her ability to receive angel message, past life messages and more.
Joan’s intention is to provide a heart connection for healing and movement in situations that are very hard to discuss. She has found that many have experiences or witness signs that they do not have anyone to speak to about. Joan’s truth is that she is a Christian who believes in the miracles of God, Spirit and power of energy/alternative healing. Joan uses her knowledge from continued education in the field of metaphysics to connect using tools of angel communication, psychic impressions, past life messages as well as information from loved ones, pets that have crossed/alive for the health and healing of the sitter.
Joan’s Art Connect, LLC studio space has closed. Joan strives to keep a philosophy of life-long learning by teaching skills that you can develop and use outside of the classes that are taught. Private parties are specifically set up for the interest of the clients where a theme is created for company gatherings or family reunions. She still offers consignment work upon request. Her dream was to one day have an art studio to create and teach others to love art as much as she did. She wanted to offer a space that would allow any kid age 2-92, an opening to use their creative artistic voice to express themselves and learn more about who they are through setting challenging individual art goals. The larger dream was to have a space that would include a clay studio, gallery and multiple rooms for specific areas of exploration. After teaching for 20+ years, Joan felt she was simply too young/too old to keep saying “my dream is”. Joan jumped off the artistic cliff of sorts and started her first studio space in June of 2017. She opened the doors to Joan’s Art Connect, LLC the first weekend of August for the 10th Annual Vandergrift Arts Festival. Joan’s studio provided a small yet giving space which was the home of Sander’s Pharmacy in Downtown Vandergrift, Pennsylvania years ago. The original cabinetry stored a multitude of creative supplies for the artists’ play. This space closed as of November 1st 2021 and although that dream was put on hold, it was a space with great energy and warmth. Joan’s hope is that her students and guests saw that she shared the same passion in her knowledge and love of the arts.
